Do you have a child with a food allergy and are looking for a solution to make life easier? In this episode of The Perfect Balance, I’m going to take you to Aspire Allergy & Sinus for my daughter’s graduation from Oral Immune Therapy. We’ll interview the awesome Dr. Stacy Silvers to learn all about OIT and the relief it can bring.

OIT At Aspire Allergy & Sinus

As a parent with a child that has a nut allergy, it’s a routine process to check ingredients on all food that is purchased. Do you know how difficult it is to find foods that don’t contain nuts or aren’t manufactured in a nut facility? It’s been a long process, but today is graduation day.

At Aspire Allergy & Sinus, my daughter Rylee has been undergoing OIT, or oral immunotherapy. As Dr. Silvers explains, it’s a process where kids who are allergic to certain foods can slowly and over time tolerate very large amounts of the food. They accomplish this feat by starting with very minute, tiny amounts of the food. Over the months, they slowly work them up to where they can eat very, very large amounts of the food with no reaction.

All About Dr. Silvers

Dr. Silvers initially wanted to be involved in the allergy and asthma practice. He grew up with those conditions as a kid, having gone through allergy shots and taking asthma medications regularly. While he always knew he wanted to go into allergy management, food allergies became specifically interesting to him as he was going through fellowship.

It was always frustrating to Dr. Silvers to not give kids an option for treatment for food allergies. For so long, the standard was to tell kids to avoid the food and that it was all they could do. When OIT was becoming more mainstream, Dr. Silvers got very excited about it and jumped in with both feet.

Dr. Silvers’ favorite part of being a doctor is changing people’s lives as much as he can. For most of his patients, that means getting them to the point where they don’t have to be fearful of food. The ultimate goal of OIT is to make things a little bit easier, a little bit less stressful, decrease anxiety, and normalize things as much as possible.

Free From Allergies

We’re so thankful that Rylee is finally free from her nut allergy. When I asked my daughter what her advice would be for others considering OIT, she simply said to take it seriously and take care of their body. It’s worth the time and effort to not have to worry about food.

I hope this offers you and your family the relief you need for the life you want. Aspire Allergy & Sinus has Texas clinics in Austin, Dallas, San Antonio, El Paso, Midland, Odessa, Corpus Christi, Houston, and Waco. There are also clinics in Florida and Colorado.
