Did you know there’s a place in Alaska where you can get up close and personal with reindeer? In this episode of The Perfect Balance, I’m going to take you to Williams Reindeer Farms in Palmer, Alaska. We’ll learn some fun facts about the farm and discover everything this amazing place has to offer.
Reindeer, Bison, And Moose
Here at the Williams Reindeer Farm in Palmer, Alaska, you can walk along with the reindeer, young moose, and deer elk being rehabilitated. Once a dairy farm, this beautiful place is now home to 100 reindeer, 2 Rocky Mountain elk, a bison, a yak, and a moose. It’s an amazing place to explore and really get into the holiday spirit.
Want to know a reindeer fact? The male reindeer all drop their antlers by Thanksgiving. This is because the season of rut is over, so they no longer need their antlers. On the other hand, the females keep their antlers to protect their young from wolf packs and until the young can keep up with the herd. Therefore, it is a well-known fact that only the female of the species could drag a fat man in a red suit with a stack of toys all over the world in one night without getting lost.
Happy Holidays!
I hope you enjoyed this tour of Williams Reindeer Farm here in Alaska. I want to wish you your family a happy holiday season, and make sure to stay tuned to the next episode of The Perfect Balance to see what I feature next!
