As someone passionate about real estate, I know how important it is to continually improve my skills and qualifications. That’s why I’ve been working tirelessly to obtain my real estate license and build up my CV for my rotation. But besides those efforts, I’ve also recently become licensed as an insurance agent for property and casualty in Texas and Nevada. In this blog post, I want to share with you the journey I took to integrate my real estate and insurance knowledge and how this integration can lead to better client outcomes. One of the main aspects of my journey toward integrating real estate and insurance has been attaining my license for the latter. I’ve been dedicated to learning more about insurance, from how policies work to the intricacies of underwriting and claims. And while I’ve learned a lot on my own, I’ve also received great training from professionals like Polo Hymas with Colorado Insurance, who I’m lucky to have as a mentor. One thing that Polo stressed to me is the importance of working as an independent agent, where you have access to a variety of insurance carriers and products. This allows you to tailor your proposals to clients and provide them with the best coverage at the best price.
Now, you might be wondering what insurance has to do with real estate. The answer is, a lot. As a real estate professional, you encounter clients who buy or sell properties. In either situation, insurance plays a crucial role. Buyers must obtain homeowners insurance before closing, and sellers must provide proof of insurance throughout the transaction. Furthermore, many real estate transactions also involve mortgage lending, requiring specific insurance coverage. Having a deep understanding of insurance, I can better serve my real estate clients by ensuring they have the right coverage at the right time.
But my integration journey has continued. I’ve also been exploring networking opportunities that can help me expand my knowledge base and connect with other professionals who share my goals. One group that I’ve found particularly helpful is the Women’s Council of Realtors. This organization has chapters throughout the country, and members include real estate agents of all experience levels, lenders, attorneys, home inspectors, and other related professionals. The Women’s Council provides a platform for learning, networking, and leadership development, all of which can benefit professionals integrating different fields like real estate and insurance.
Another aspect of integrating insurance and real estate is simply having a mindset encompassing both worlds. That means understanding that every property transaction comes with varying degrees of risk and that insurance can be a powerful tool for mitigating those risks. It also means being willing to educate yourself and your clients on the principles of insurance and how they apply to your particular market. With this mindset, you can set yourself apart as a real estate professional who truly understands the varying components of a transaction and can add value at every step.
Integrating insurance and real estate has been an exciting and ongoing journey that I’m eager to share with my fellow professionals. Through this integration, I’ve gained a deeper appreciation for insurance’s role in real estate and how it can benefit both agents and clients.
