Are you looking for fun summer activities for the kids now that school’s out? If you want to find the best spot in Round Rock for outdoor entertainment, I’ve found an awesome spot for you! On this episode of The Perfect Balance, we’re heading to Old Settler’s Park to check out all the great amenities available on its 645 acres. From picnics, playgrounds and sports fields to RV camping and a water park, there’s something here for everyone in the family to enjoy!
Old Settlers Park is the pride of joy of Round Rock’s park system, with acres of space for every Texan to enjoy. Lush, grassy fields and plenty of trees offer space for games and outdoor recreation, with nearby fishing at Bright Lake. Want to plan a BBQ or picnic? Choose from over 40 picnic areas with benches and grills throughout the park, or rent one of two covered pavilions to host a celebration or summer bash. 3.3 miles of paved trail also runs through a portion of the park and offers the perfect opportunity to take a stroll or run.
If you’ve got energetic kids that would love to expend their energy, choose from 7 playgrounds for classic summertime fun. A more recent addition to the park is the Joanne Land Playground, home to a variety of unique recreation equipment that your little ones will love. Climbing towers, obstacles, slides and tunnels dot the playground, while the Gravity Rail is a favorite zipline-type experience that all the kids line up for. For hot summer days, the nearby Rock’N River Water Park features a lazy river, water slides, pools and a unique “sprayground” where guests can splash the day away.
A huge draw to Settlers Park is their large variety of sports areas, which many of Round Rock’s youth and amateur sports leagues make use of. The park contains 20 baseball fields, 5 softball fields, 2 football fields, 19 soccer fields in various sizes (half and full), 12 tennis courts, 2 volleyball courts and an 18-hole disc golf course. There’s clearly no shortage of spots to get together and play and play!
For travelers or Round Rock residents who want to camp and enjoy Old Settlers Parks amenities for a few days, Old Settlers RV Park has 39 spaces available with full hookups. This area of the park also includes historic pioneer sites, a Firehouse Museum and rustic venues that can be rented for weddings or parties.
