Are you thinking about living in Austin, Texas? Well, today I’m going to give you a preview.

Hi, folks. I’m Maggie Luce, The Perfect Balance, and on this channel, we talk everything about living in Austin. Today, I’m going to show you the top three things to do here in Austin, Texas.

Let’s start with all the bodies of water you can visit, have some fun in the sun. I’m going to mention a couple of my faves. Lake Travis is a reservoir on the Colorado River in central Texas. The Reservoir was formed in 1942 by the construction of Mansfield Dam on the western edge of Austin, Texas by the Lower Colorado River Authority, and was built specifically to contain floodwaters in a flash flood zone region. Activities include flying at Lake Travis Zip Line Adventures. Play hard or just relax at Volente Beach Resort and Waterpark. Rent a boat and hit the water like I’m doing here. Blue Hill Park is a scenic lagoon bordered by the limestone bluffs along the south fork of the San Gabriel River. Park amenities include trails, picnic, fishing, and swimming.

Now that we know what’s fun in the sun, let’s talk about our love of a certain winged nocturnal animals that appear at sunset. Yes, these are the Mexican free-tailed bats. A 1980s renovation transformed the Congress Avenue bridge into an ideal bat cave, soon attracting migrating Mexican free-tailed bats. Decades later, Austin’s bat numbers have swelled, and locals have adopted the beloved creatures as neighbors who happily handled the city’s bug mitigation and provide an amazing nightly show. The best time to witness the bat is around sunset, but the nightly show can take place anywhere from 7:30 to 9:45. It can take as long as 45 minutes for all the bats to exit the bridge for the night.

Let’s check out one more fun and popular photo op location here in Austin, Texas. This mural is on the wall of Joe’s Coffee Shop. So if you come out to take a pic, plan, a coffee stop.
